I just moved from a Pair Networks shared host to a Pair Networks VPS Starter II host. I am writing a brief note about the move and my experience. The move was very painless and took less than a day. They have 24/7 web hosting support. I entered my move request on a Friday morning, and the move was completed overnight. The actual downtime was less than 10 minutes.

The VPS offers a full development environment. It is currently running Ubuntu 20.04. The server is fully managed, so I only have to be concerned with my applications. They have a number of different VPS offerings; you can easily scale up or down as needed, painlessly (just a click away) at no extra cost.

Working with the Pair support team is a real pleasure. They are located in Pittsburgh-based facilites, and you always get to work with a real human by either e-mail or phone. They are very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. Their hosting service is very reliable and stable; they have been in business for over 25 years.

02-05-22 Update: I just moved my site to a self-managed VPS at Vultr. I am still very happy with Pair. However, I decided that I wanted to work with a self-managed VPS where I have total control over the server software and configuration. Obviously, that’s more work and responsibility for me, but that’s all part of the educational value for my webhosting “hobby”.
